01

Understanding
the NDIS.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for people with disability to access supports that help them live more independently and participate in the community.

NDIS funding may cover a range of supports including personal care, community participation, supported accommodation and skill development. Advocate Care works with participants and support coordinators to deliver supports funded through NDIS plans.

Core Supports

Day-to-day support including personal care, transport, consumables, and community participation.

Capacity Building

Supports that help you build skills and independence — from life skills development to support coordination.

Capital Supports

Funding for higher-cost items such as assistive technology, home modifications, and specialist accommodation.

02

Are You an NDIS
Advocacy Organisation?

No. Advocate Care is an NDIS service provider, not an advocacy organisation.

We provide practical supports funded through NDIS plans, including supported accommodation, assistance with daily living and community participation.

NDIS advocacy organisations are separate services that provide independent advice or representation for participants when dealing with the NDIS or other services.

If you are looking for NDIS advocacy services, we recommend contacting an independent advocacy organisation. If you are looking for NDIS support services or accommodation, our team would be happy to help.

What Is Supported
Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of NDIS support that helps participants live independently in shared or individual accommodation while receiving assistance with daily tasks.

SIL supports may include:

  • Personal care
  • Meal preparation
  • Household tasks
  • Medication reminders
  • Community participation

SIL is generally suitable for participants who require regular support throughout the day.

What If I Don't
Have SIL Funding?

Some participants may not have SIL funding in their plan but still require housing with support. In some cases, Advocate Care may be able to provide supported accommodation with scheduled drop-in supports, depending on the participant's needs and available funding.

Our team can work with participants and support coordinators to determine whether this option may be suitable.

Getting Started

How do I start services with Advocate Care?

You can contact our team directly or ask your support coordinator to make a referral. We will discuss your needs, review your NDIS plan and determine what supports may be suitable.

Do I need a referral to access your services?

No. Participants, family members, hospital teams and support coordinators can all contact us directly to enquire about supports.

Can I change to Advocate Care from another NDIS provider?

Yes. Participants have the choice to change providers if they feel another service may better meet their needs. Our team can guide you through the process.

Funding & NDIS Plans

What NDIS funding categories do you work with?

Advocate Care primarily delivers supports funded through Core Supports, including assistance with daily living and community participation. Accommodation supports may also involve SIL or other relevant funding categories.

Can I still access support if my plan is self-managed or plan-managed?

Yes. We can work with NDIA-managed, plan-managed, and self-managed plans depending on the support required.

What if I'm new to the NDIS and don't yet have a plan?

You may still contact us to discuss your situation. We can provide general information about supports and the referral process.

Accommodation & Housing

Do you offer supported accommodation options?

Yes. Advocate Care provides accommodation options including Supported Independent Living (SIL), medium-term accommodation and respite, depending on participant needs and availability.

Participants and support coordinators can contact us to discuss current vacancies and suitable housing options in Perth.

Do you currently have accommodation vacancies?

Our accommodation vacancies change regularly. Please visit our Vacancies page or contact us to enquire about current availability.

Do I need SIL funding to access your accommodation?

Not always. Some participants may be able to access supported accommodation with scheduled drop-in supports, depending on their funding and support needs.

How do I find NDIS accommodation?

NDIS accommodation options vary depending on the participant's funding and support needs. Some participants may access housing through Supported Independent Living (SIL) or other supported living arrangements.

Advocate Care offers accommodation options in Perth and can work with participants and support coordinators to explore suitable housing and support arrangements.

Where are your accommodation properties located?

Advocate Care currently offers NDIS supported accommodation in Perth's southern suburbs, including Baldivis, Wellard, Rockingham and Thornlie.

We regularly update our accommodation options and may have SIL vacancies and supported housing opportunities in other parts of Perth as new homes become available. Participants and support coordinators are encouraged to contact our team to discuss current NDIS accommodation availability in Perth and upcoming vacancies.

Can I inspect a property before moving in?

Yes. Property inspections can often be arranged for participants, families, health professionals or support coordinators.

Can I access supported accommodation without SIL funding?

Some participants may not have SIL funding in their plan but still require housing with support.

In certain cases, supported accommodation may be possible using other funding arrangements with scheduled support. Our team can discuss your plan and determine whether this option may be suitable.

Support Workers & Services

How are your support workers selected?

Our support workers are screened, trained and selected to ensure they can provide safe, respectful and person-centred support.

Can I choose my support worker?

Yes. Where possible, we aim to match participants with support workers who align with their preferences, communication style, personality and support needs.

Do you provide meet and greets before supports start?

Yes. Where possible, we arrange meet and greet sessions so participants can become comfortable with their support workers before services begin.

Referrals & Enquiries

How can support coordinators make a referral?

Support coordinators can contact us directly or complete our online referral form.

What is your referral process?

Referrals can be made by support coordinators, participants or family members. Once a referral is received, our team will:

  1. 1. Review the participant's support needs and NDIS plan
  2. 2. Discuss suitable support arrangements
  3. 3. Arrange an introduction or assessment if appropriate
How quickly can services start?

This depends on support availability, staffing and accommodation vacancies. Our team will discuss timelines once we understand your needs.

Do you currently have capacity for new participants?

Capacity can vary depending on support worker availability and accommodation vacancies. Support coordinators are encouraged to contact us to discuss current availability and participant needs.

What participant support needs can you accommodate?

We work with participants who require assistance with daily living, community participation and supported accommodation. Our team can discuss each referral individually to determine whether the supports required can be safely and effectively delivered.

Can you support participants transitioning from hospital into accommodation?

Yes. Advocate Care can assist participants who require supported accommodation following a hospital stay.

We work with hospital discharge teams, allied health professionals and support coordinators to help ensure a smooth transition from hospital into a safe and appropriate living environment.

Depending on the participant's needs and funding, this may include supported accommodation, daily living assistance and ongoing support to help the person settle into their new home. Hospital teams and health professionals are welcome to contact our team to discuss accommodation availability and support options.
